The Shed Adventure is an innovative project between Ribble Valley Crossroads Care, Gazegill Organic Farm, Carers Link Lancashire and the Ribble Valley Dementia Action Alliance.
Free sessions on an organic farm for people with dementia or memory loss are being held at Lower Gazegill Farm in Rimington while their carers enjoy some respite. Our care support workers are on hand to support those attending and activities place in all weathers so appropriate footwear and clothing will be needed. Carers are welcome to attend the session along with the person living with dementia.
People living with dementia may benefit from participating in the supported activities on the working organic farm which have been demonstrated to help dementia sufferers by stimulating and accessing early childhood memories. This can help to alleviate the short-term frustrations of their condition, generates a sense of wellbeing and enables people to make connections, make new friends (with other people and animals!), share memories and enjoy being present in the moment.
The Shed also enables carers who come along as well to be free to relax, a peaceful space in which to read, listen to music, listen to the sounds of the countryside including bird song, meditate and/or make and enjoy simple refreshments. They are also within close proximity of the people they care for whilst at the same time secure in the knowledge that the person they care for is safe, supported and happy. This will ensure that both the carer and those needing their care experience their visit to the same venue, in a way they are sharing the experience whilst also both benefitting in necessarily different ways.
Farm adventure runs 13:00-15:00 at the farm, with free transport from 12:00 and return to your home by 16:00. For details or to book a place contact Carers Link on 01254 387444.
